Most of the Christian world can’t seem to grasp the true, full gospel. There will be a Judgment, and we will have to answer to God for every word spoken and every deed done.

The evil one has done a masterful job confusing everyone on this. And most of the world tilts too far one way (faith) or the other (works).

To re-iterate, we are not saved by works. But faith without works is dead (see the entire book of James). Paul summarizes this nicely in Ephesians:

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Ephesians 2:8-10

At first glance this may seem confusing. Paul says we are not saved by works, but then he says in Christ we do good works and God has decreed that we walk in them.

We do and walk in good works using our faith. This is the essence of the New Covenant. It doesn’t nullify God’s Law (the Ten Commandments). It allows us to walk in them.

Jeremiah describes the New Covenant in Chapter 31:

Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Jeremiah 31:31-33

If the gospel were only about the death of Jesus and His resurrection, which is wonderful no doubt, but it would be powerless to have any affect on us, other than to be thankful for it.
